Chairman’s Message

Message from the Dean

Greetings.

Welcome to the homepage of Seoul National University Graduate School of International Studies’ BK21 Project, “Cultivating the Next Generation of Academic Leaders in Interdisciplinary Studies of International Area and Development Cooperation for a New National Strategy”.

Seoul National University’s Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) is an educational research community with an integrated curriculum and English lectures geared towards international and regional development research, engaging in academic exchanges with top foreign institutions, home to faculty members who are leaders in their field, and excellent students from all over the world. Among the participants in the GSIS BK21 Education Research Group will be thirteen professors and two full-time researchers from the Graduate School of International Studies at Seoul National University, as well as a hundred participating GSIS students every semester.

In order to reflect the contemporary needs of Korea’s national strategy, and to realize the vision of training the next generation of multidisciplinary academic researchers and professional innovators, the research and educational programs will feature a cross-section of twenty regional studies and educational programs across the four major themes of international development (sustainable development, democratic governance, economic and social policy, and international cooperation) and four major regions (South-east Asia/South Asia, Africa, Central and South America, and Middle East/Central Asia/other regions). Through this, we will foster talented people skilled in the humanities, with convergent knowledge in the social sciences, a first-hand understanding of regional issues, expertise in international development, and a personality for public diplomacy.

In addition to the various programs to strengthen the educational and research capabilities of the GSIS community, we will share various educational and research activities and achievements related to domestic and foreign joint research, special lecture series, colloquia, workshops, round-tables, and exchange programs on our homepage.

We look forward to your continuing interest in our community.

Thank you.
